A community field trip to Kanepu'u on January 19th, brought families, Lanai's
rare dry forest resources, and Kupuna together. Sponsored by Ahahui Imi Pono o Lanai (formerly Hui Malama Pono o Lanai), the
Lanai Culture & Heritage Center, and hosted by Bob Hera, the Nature
Conservancy and Ike Aina, participants learned about the ongoing stewardship
efforts, unique plants and history of the Kanepuu region.
There was also lots of fun, good food, and even some weed pulling.
This program is part of a
growing community effort to draw greater awareness of Lanai's heritage
and opportunities for people to work as stewards of the islands' resources.
