Interpretive Garden

As a part of the interpretive programs of the Lanai CHC our exhibits extend beyond the doors of the museum displays. With the help of Uncle Genji and Mrs. Toshiko Miyamoto, Stacy Miyamoto, Gary Suzuki, Kawena Maly, Uncle Sam Koa Shin, Albert Morita, Kawehi Ryder and many other community volunteers, we are developing three themed gardens to share the history of Lanai. The photos and slide show below with pictures dating from October 16, 2009 to August 13, 2010 share progress made in developing the interpretive gardens.

We extend our sincerest mahalo to the many people who have donated rare native Hawaiian plants and pineapple plants to the garden project. Mahalo nui to Christine Costales and the Lanai Watershed Project, Wendell and Joanie Sarme, University of Hawaii Agricultural Division and Lanai High & Elementary School.

The garden themes include native Hawaiian plants (several found only on the island of Lanai), rows of pineapple, and plants which were typically grown in gardens around the plantation homes.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the interpretive garden please call (808) 565-7177 or email us at info@lanaichc.org. Check back again for more updates on the garden.

P.S. If you happen to be driving by in the middle of the night turn in and flash your lights to see if you can scare any of those "pesky" deer away who have been destroying our plants.

MAHALO!
