"Voices of Lanai" Mini Documentaries Premier
The debut of “Voices of Lanai” mini-documentary films will be featured at the Aloha Lanai Benefit Fundraising Event Program on March 25th, 2012.
In 2006, the Lanai Culture & Heritage Center began an oral history program with elder families of Lanai, recording the life experiences and recollections of kamaaina, documenting the stories of our island home.

In 2009, Kealii Reichel, friends and Halau Hula Kealaokamaile joined with the Lanai CHC and donated a concert to raise funds for a video recorded oral history program.
Filmmaker: Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier - Jazz Alley TV/HawaiiONTV.com Studios and his partners have assisted Lanai CHC in the recording of more than 40 interviews with elder kamaaina.

This program called “Voices of Lanai” provides future generations with some 80 hours of raw footage which serve as a knowledge bank of Lanai’s history.

Three mini documentaries have been completed, which feature excerpts of the stories and memories of Lanai residents. The Voices of Lanai mini documentary films will be debuted on March 25th as a part of the Aloha Lanai Benefit Event in celebration of Lana’i people and history.

Noelani Mahoe, noted Hawaiian musicologist visited Lanai on May 3, 2010 and met with families to recollect some of Lanai’s music from days gone by.
