Much aloha to many volunteers and the Pūlama Lāna’i Culture & Historic Preservation crew for making the program a great experience for all.

The winds blow gently through the kukui grove,
Ho’okio is caressed by a garland of heavenly mist,
The waters of life flow gently across the land of our ancestors,
Maunalei is truly a place of tranquility…

Haumāna and kumu returned to Maunalei Valley where they continued their field work, and lessons in history of the valley. Being the last program day in Maunalei, the haumāna then focused on their own reflections and creative writing, while also thinking about the future of Maunalei as a part of the cultural and food sustainability initiatives of our community.

Pā aheahe ka makani i ka ulu kukui,
Mili ‘ia no Ho‘okio i ka lei ‘ohu o lani,
Kahe mālie ka wai ola ma ka ‘āina kūpuna,
Maunalei nanea maoli nō!
