The history of Lāna‘i spans some 1,000 years of residency. While little known, there are treasured sites (wahi pana) and historical resources across the island.
Please join us for our first community stewardship day on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Participants are asked to meet at the flagpole fronting the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center (Old Dole Administration Building) at 6:45am. Transportation will depart at 7:00am. Work will begin upon arrival at the Waia‘ōpae Fishpond restoration site and continue until mid-day, at which time participants will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at the site.
Pūlama Lāna‘i and the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center aim at partnering with the community to foster a collective of residents and visitors who are engaged in responsible stewardship of Lāna‘i’s natural and cultural resources. We are initiating a program that allows residents, visitors, and Pūlama Lāna‘i staff to work alongside each other to preserve, protect, and learn about our resources in once-a-month community stewardship days.
What to Bring:
- A reusable water bottle
- Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
- Extra clothes and towel
- Dress to work in the ocean (rash guard, boardshorts, tabis)
- A potluck dish to share
Further details and instructions will be disseminated to registered participants by email.
