Frank Chester will be on Lāna’i July 29th through August 1st, to celebrate with his former champions and honor the new generation of physical fitness champions from Lāna‘i High & Elementary School. The sports banquet is being held this weekend, honoring all the team, including Nigel Calderon, who took top honor across the nation.
Kimo Hanog and fellow team mates under Frank Chester’s tutelage gathered photos and articles and Kepā put together a mini-exhibit at the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center to honor Mr. Chester’s inspiration and work in building a Lāna‘i legacy team. Beginning in the early 1970s, Lānā‘i High & Elementary School Shop Teacher, Frank Chester, added a new duty to his roster, he began training students to compete in the National Fitness program. The hard work and dedication of students and families payed off as little Lāna‘i became the biggest winning school in the state and took national league championships for a number of years.
