Come back soon for more information on Lāna‘i's Heritage Trails.
Wahi pana o Lāna‘i (Storied landscapes of Lāna‘i). New interpretive signage is being set in place at various locations on Lāna‘i to celebrate the rich natural and cultural history of Lāna‘i. Here along the Mānele Road in Pālāwai signs describe the geologic history of Lāna‘i, Hawaiian settlement and land use practices, names of storied places, the biology of Lāna‘i Hale, the short-lived Mormon Settlement in the “City of Joseph”, development of the pineapple plantation and Pālāwai piggery.
The historical narratives have been developed through years of research with the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center and in partnership with Pūlama Lāna‘i. Signs have been set in place by staff of the Culture & Historic Preservation branch of Pūlama Lāna‘i.
