This program introduces viewers to several Lāna'i Elders, and provides you with examples of the stories that have been recorded in the Voices of Lāna'i (2) oral history program funded by contributions made during the 2009 Kealii Reichel concert.
In 2006, the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center began an oral history program with elder families of Lāna‘i, recording the life experiences and recollections of kama‘āina, documenting the stories of our island home.
This oral history documentary features excerpts from detailed interviews with members of Lāna‘i’s Hawaiian, Filipino and Japanese Community was produced by the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center and Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier of Jazz Alley TV. Oral History Interviews were conducted by Kepā Maly, Executive Director of the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center.
Funding for this program was raised though a benefit concert featuring Keali‘i Reichel and Halau Ke‘alaokamaile in 2009.
